Volunteer Info

1. We welcome all new volunteers and would love to use your skills at our feeding scheme thank you! For your first visit simply join us at the feeding scheme at 09:30 to meet our kids and the other volunteers and to see the setup and what we do.

2. After your first visit you can sign up on our roster for specific age groups you would like to work with, or for specific activities you would like to get involved with. You will be sent a reminder 1 week before you are on duty with information of the activities planned for your age group, on receipt of this confirmation please let us know immediately if you are not available anymore, so that we have time to find a replacement volunteer.

3. Volunteers that would like to bring items on the needs list (for the day they are on duty) are welcome to do so. Items still needed for each day will be noted on the signup roster, so if you want to donate items you can let us know when you sign up which items and quantities you will bring so that we do not duplicate any items.

4.  There are two types of volunteering that you can sign up for after your first visit:

General Volunteer:

  • Report for duty at 09:00
  • Unpack tables and gas burner from container
  • Unpack food containers, plates & spoons/forks
  • Unpack water containers, cooldrink, jugs, cups and pre-mix cooldrink
  • Fill washing up basins with water and dishwashing liquid
  • Setup dirt bin with black bags
  • Help with Attendance register at 09:30
  • Dish and serve food & cooldrink
  • Help with washing up, drying and packing away of plates and cups
  • Clean-up of tables, packing away tables and burner into container
  • Duty finishes at about 10:30, but you are welcome to join one of the skills
  • teaching/play groups to assist with their activities until closing at 11:45


    Skills Teaching / Play Group Volunteer :

  • Report for duty at 09:30 to help with attendance registe
  • While breakfast is served, set up classrooms and play areas for the planned activities, unpack items that is to be used at each activity
  • After breakfast, at about 10:20 meet at the main area where children will be divided into groups and assigned to each volunteer as per the roster
  • Volunteers will take their group to their designated area for the planned activities
  • Children are not allowed to leave their activities to walk around the grounds, they must stay in their activities until the whistle blows
  • Activities must be finished and items packed up by 11:30, please ensure that the children clean up your designated area and it is in the same condition as it was when we arrived
  • Meet at the main area for closing, assist with handouts like fruit, snacks, food items, clothing items to take home
  • Duty finishes at about 11:45


    5. At Bottelary we are mostly exposed to very hot weather with limited shading, so we recommend a hat/cap and sunscreen to protect you against the sun, that you have breakfast before joining us to build up your stamina, and you are welcome to bring with cold water for your own use, and please wear comfortable shoes.

    6.You are welcome to bring friends and family with when you are on duty to show them the good work you are doing at Bottelary, and if you want to put them to work on the activities for your group go right ahead. Its great for the children to see friends & families working together!
