Helping Angels is run by Annemi Brand,  with Assistant Manager Nicole Schoeman and Project Co-ordinator Gerrit de Vries. We believe in teamwork, and we love sharing our passion for making a difference with all residents from the Western Cape wanting to do something for the needy. We have various helpers and regular volunteers assisting us with our charity projects, and without them none of the projects would be possible.

We work full time in regular jobs, and do these charity projects over weekends and after hours, which sometimes gets very hectic, but what can we say… it’s what we love to do!  We do not get compensated in any way for  running Helping Angels and all our volunteers work for free, except for all the love we get from the kids at our feeding scheme in Kraaifontein and our pensioners in Brooklyn, which is the best reward ever! So any donations you make towards our projects goes into just that…our projects!

We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.

Bottelary Feeding Scheme, Kraaifontein

Helping Angels runs a feeding scheme for 200+ farm children from 17 different farms in the Kraaifontein area. These farm workers live in harsh conditions, most not being able to provide their families with regular meals, some living without electricity and a lot of them even sleeping without blankets in small shacks.

The conditions vary between farms, some are better off than others but almost all of these farm children depend on meals over weekends. We supply a meal on Saturdays, and host fun and educational activities for the children, while doing life skills classes for the adult farm workers and the older children.

We assist Gr11 & Gr12 pupils from our feeding scheme, supporting them with extra classes and supplies they need to finish school. On the last Saturday of each school term, we provide a food hamper to each family that forms part of our feeding scheme to ensure that they have sufficient food supplies during the school holidays, since during these weeks the children do not have the meals that they would normally get in school.

Volunteers can sign up to help with these activities on Saturdays, either with the children or the adults. The mommies do beading and knitting classes, while the dads are being taught how to play chess. For the children’s crafts we have a theme for each Saturday, and each age group will do activities relating to this theme. To volunteer please read the ‘How you can help’ section on our website, view our ‘Calendar’ section to see when we will be at Bottelary again, and then email us info@helpingangels.co.za to let us know which day you would like to join us at Bottelary.

Pensioners Project, Brooklyn

Helping Angels assist struggling pensioners in Reyger Court, Brooklyn who lives below the breadline. Our outreach program is to assist the 330 residents with food donations and to get volunteers that can help them by transporting them to doctors and hospital as needed.

We currently do monthly handouts of milk and eggs to all the pensioners thanks to our sponsors, while the pensioners in bigger need will receive additional food donations to assist them during the month.

When we visit these struggling pensioners we can see how great the need is, with some having no food in their cupboards or some re-cooking a chicken carcass 3 times to make a watery soup. So with the monthly eggs and milk providing them with calcium and a protein, we still need a supply of fresh fruit and veggies and meat products to ensure that these very special pensioners can live the rest of their days without suffering. With a bit of love and attention they blossom, inspiring us all to make each day count and to keep going despite tough times.
